Thinking out of the box in Ghent...: Functional and aesthetic lighting in 1 setup.
At the bicycle and pedestrian bridge over the Watersportbaan in Ghent, the lighting was approached in a completely different way: the lighting designer came up with a positioning of the luminaires low above the bridge deck; where a part is oriented horizontally to illuminate the bridge deck and where the rest of the luminaires are oriented towards the structure of the bridge.
On the one hand, the silhouette of the bridge is perfectly displayed (note the curved "light stripe" at the top of the walls) and you get a nice, even facial recognition through the reflection of the light from the light blue side wall.
The overall view of the bridge from the banks can also be called spectacular. At night the design of the bridge comes into its own.
Clever….!
