From Wegen en Verkeer, the Flemish road department, we were asked through the engineering firm Tractebel to design specific lighting for the redevelopment of the N275 between Hoeilaart and the Brussels-Capital Region.
Over a distance of 1.3 kilometres, the Tervuursesteenweg crosses the Sonian Forest at this location.
The specific assignment was to put together adapted lighting for the newly constructed two-way cycle path with minimal nuisance for the bats.
It was decided to integrate the lighting in the wooden crash barrier between the cycle path and the road to keep the positioning as low as possible. Of course the crash barrier could not be changed structurally; thus a specific fastening system was used.
The LEDs used are specifically adapted to the nocturnal animals and have an amber coloration.
